BionicM, the University of Tokyo spin-off behind the Bio Leg powered prosthetic knee, said on November 2, 2026, that it raised ¥710 million, or about $4.5 million, in the first close of its Series B financing. The total includes J-KISS convertible equity the company issued earlier.
The money is earmarked for ASISTA, the company's next-generation knee, which BionicM plans to bring to the U.S. market in 2027, according to the announcement on PR TIMES.
Who invested, and how much was new
B Dash Ventures and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital are the named investors, joined by unnamed overseas and individual backers. BionicM describes the two firms as key investors and does not identify a lead. Dealroom, the data provider, characterizes them as leading the round, a label the company's release does not confirm.
Because the round folds in earlier J-KISS investments, the full ¥710 million did not arrive as fresh cash on the day of the announcement. The yen figure is the one of record. Dealroom lists one feed at $4.6 million, while BionicM's English-language release says approximately $4.5 million.
Where the money goes

Proceeds will go toward production infrastructure and U.S. sales and marketing ahead of the 2027 debut, the company said. Company communications present Bio Leg as its current commercial product; whether the earlier Cybo Leg remains on sale is not established by the available sources.
Readers should treat the ASISTA page on the company's site as prelaunch disclosure. It does not demonstrate commercial availability, and payer coverage has not been independently verified.
What the investors said
"We have reached an inflection point for widespread adoption," said Hiroyuki Watanabe, representative director of B Dash Ventures, in the announcement. He pointed to demand in the U.S. for powered assistance and to growing recognition by reimbursement systems.
Yuichi Nishio, executive officer and general manager of Investment Division III at Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, said the knee could "actively augment human mobility." Founder and CEO Xiaojun Sun said amputees "can move more freely and with less fatigue." Both quotations appear in the release as fragments, so their full context is unclear.
Earlier funding and the American footprint
BionicM announced a ¥370 million third-party allotment on January 31, 2023. It followed with a first close of roughly $3 million in September 2024, announced October 8 of that year, when it reported cumulative equity and grants of ¥1.9 billion. In February 2026, Shoko Chukin Bank announced a ¥200 million lending facility. That is debt capacity, not equity.
Outside tallies of the company's funding do not agree. Recent Funding reports $12.3 million across three sourced rounds. CB Insights lists $5.93 million and still shows September 2024 as the latest financing. Neither squares with the company's own equity-plus-grants figure.
The U.S. subsidiary, for its part, is not new. BionicM announced its launch on January 7, 2025.
Regulatory and reimbursement status
BionicM registered and listed Bio Leg in July 2023 as a Class II, 510(k)-exempt device, according to company announcements from August 2023. The FDA states that registration and listing do not constitute approval, clearance or authorization.
Bio Leg carries billing codes verified by the PDAC, the Medicare contractor that reviews device coding. BionicM's FAQ cautions that coverage is not guaranteed and depends on the payer, the plan, prior authorization and medical-necessity documentation.
A small field

In the announcement, BionicM said only three companies worldwide have commercialized powered prostheses. That is the company's claim, not an audited census. A 2025 University of Michigan paper did identify three commercial powered-knee products: Power Knee, Intuy Knee and Bio Leg.
Össur launched its Power Knee in 2022. Reboocon Bionics sells the Intuy Knee, which has U.S. distribution. Ottobock's C-Leg, a microprocessor-controlled knee, serves as the comparator in a clinical study that BionicM and Brooks Rehabilitation announced on March 27, 2026. No results have been published.
What comes next
The company called this a first close rather than a final one, which leaves room for more capital. Mutsuki Takano, executive officer, CFO and COO, is listed as the press contact. ASISTA's U.S. launch is planned for 2027.
