Dr. Pratyush Kumar is Co-Founder and CEO of Sarvam AI, a Bengaluru-based generative AI company building sovereign large language models for Indian languages. He holds a PhD from ETH Zurich and a BTech from IIT Bombay, with research experience at Microsoft and IBM.

Before co-founding Sarvam AI in August 2023, Kumar founded AI4Bharat, an open-source initiative for Indian language AI at IIT Madras, and co-founded One Fourth Labs, an AI education platform. He also served as adjunct faculty at IIT Madras and led PadhAI, which educated 50,000 students in deep learning.

Kumar has published extensively in AI conferences and led India's open-source AI efforts across Indian languages. Sarvam AI was selected by the Government of India under the IndiaAI Mission to build India's sovereign Large Language Model.

Sarvam AI raised $41 million in Series A funding in December 2023, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with participation from Peak XV Partners and Khosla Ventures. The company has partnered with Microsoft and state governments to deploy AI infrastructure.

Sarvam's Vision OCR tool achieved 84.3% accuracy, outperforming Google Gemini and ChatGPT on Indian language benchmarks. The company's Bulbul V3 text-to-speech supports 35 voices across 11 Indian languages and serves enterprises and government sectors nationwide.
