Eva Filipa Sousa

Eva Filipa Sousa is Co-Founder and CTO at Seamoretech, a Portuguese cleantech company that turns desalination brine into freshwater and critical raw materials.
Eva is a chemical engineer who researched at the University of Porto's LEPABE lab under Prof. Adélio Mendes, working on fuel cell and water electrolysis catalysts. She completed her doctoral program in Chemical and Biological Engineering at FEUP.
Eva describes the CTO role as hands-on, saying that working with the hardware is as much a part of her job as the roadmap. She has presented her research at venues such as the Portuguese Electrochemical Society meeting and the Hyceltec symposium in Buenos Aires.
She co-founded Seamoretech in 2021 with Sofia Delgado as a spin-off from FEUP/LEPABE. The company is backed by Faber, Blueinvest, EIT RawMaterials and Creative Destruction Lab.
Seamoretech's containerized, plug-and-play zero-liquid-discharge system is designed to double freshwater recovery from desalination waste streams and cut carbon footprint by 80%. Eva presented the technology at Desalination Technology 2025, and the company targets markets including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Spain and the US.
