Ian Crosby is the Co-Founder and CEO of Synthetic, a San Francisco-based startup building fully autonomous AI bookkeeping for software and SaaS startups, backed by Khosla Ventures.

Ian earned a BCom (Honours) in Finance and Economics from the University of British Columbia, and went on to hold roles at Shopify and Mercury as Head of Accounting Products.

A serial entrepreneur on his third accounting startup, Ian brings deep operational expertise from scaling Bench Accounting into the largest bookkeeping service for small businesses in North America, serving tens of thousands of customers.

Prior to Synthetic, Ian co-founded Bench Accounting in 2012 and later co-founded Teal in 2023, a fintech platform described as the Stripe for accounting, and also serves as a Venture Partner at Basis Set Ventures.

Synthetic raised a $10M seed round in May 2026 led by Khosla Ventures, with backing from notable angels including Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, targeting a fully human-free AI bookkeeping model for tech startups.
