Jingna Zhang

Jingna Zhang is Founder and CEO of Cara, a social and portfolio platform for artists with over 1 million users that filters out AI-generated content. She is also a Forbes Asia 30 Under 30 photographer whose work has appeared in Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Time, and The Hollywood Reporter.
Born in Beijing and raised in Singapore, Jingna was a national athlete who won bronze at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in air rifle before becoming a self-taught photographer at age 18. She is an alumna of Stanford Ignite and previously founded an esports team in StarCraft II.
Jingna is a plaintiff in class-action lawsuits against Google, Stability AI, Midjourney, and other AI companies for copyright infringement. She has spoken at TechCrunch Disrupt and NeurIPS on AI safety and artists' rights, and teaches artistic portrait photography.
Cara launched in January 2023 and grew from 40,000 to 650,000 users in one week in June 2024 after Meta announced plans to train AI on user content. The platform is self-funded and run by a small team of volunteers, with plans for subscription-based revenue.
Cara now hosts over 1 million users, 4 million posts, and 5 million images, becoming a leading platform for artists seeking protection from AI scraping. Jingna's advocacy has validated the artists' rights movement and positioned Cara as a creator-first alternative to mainstream social platforms.
