Lawrence Lee

Dr. Lawrence Lee is the Co-Founder and CEO of SWAN Genomics, a deep-tech biotech company developing a plasmonic nanoantenna-based single-molecule DNA sequencing platform that promises to redefine genomics without the traditional trade-offs in accuracy, speed, or scalability.
Lawrence earned his PhD from the University of Sydney in 2008, conducted postdoctoral research at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, and rose to Associate Professor at UNSW Sydney, where he served as Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology.
A decorated scientist and entrepreneur, Lawrence holds a UNSW Scientia Fellowship, an ARC DECRA Award, a European Molecular Biology Organisation Fellowship, and the NSW Young Tall Poppy Award, and has supervised three BIOMOD Grand Prize-winning teams.
Lawrence built the foundational science behind SWAN's nanoantenna platform, spinning the company out of UNSW Sydney in 2023 alongside co-founders Min Huang, Brock Siegel, and Bill Hyun, with backing from investors including In-Q-Tel, Investible, Salus Ventures, and Proto Axiom.
SWAN's platform has demonstrated 99.9% single-molecule read accuracy and operates 100x faster than sequencing by synthesis, with a Series A round targeting A$20M+ currently in market to accelerate commercialization across precision oncology, diagnostics, and decentralized genomics.
