Lukas Vogel

Lukas Vogel is Co-Founder at CedarDB, a Munich-based database startup building a unified, PostgreSQL-compatible system that handles both transactional and analytical workloads for the era of AI agents.
Lukas earned his PhD in Database Systems from the Technical University of Munich (2018-2024), where he contributed to the Umbra research project, and previously interned as a Software Engineer at Salesforce.
Lukas is a vocal advocate for rethinking database architecture from the ground up, arguing that AI agents require databases that enforce business rules natively rather than relying on prompts.
As co-founder, Lukas has helped grow CedarDB from a TUM academic spinout into a venture-backed company with a seed round of over 5M euros led by Amplify Partners, with backing from angel investors including Hanno Renner and Jordan Tigani.
CedarDB has grown to a team of 16 employees, ranks No. 1 on ClickBench for query performance, and is preparing to launch CedarDB Cloud, targeting enterprises seeking to consolidate fragmented data stacks into a single high-performance platform.
