Markus Rondé

Markus Ronde is CEO and Cofounder at Exergy3 Limited, a University of Edinburgh spinout developing ultra-high temperature thermal energy storage technology that converts surplus renewable electricity into industrial heat.
Markus completed his PhD at The University of Edinburgh, where he worked alongside the technology inventor Dr Adam Robinson before cofounding Exergy3 in May 2023.
Under his leadership, Exergy3 won the 2025 Innovation Award for Electro-Thermal Energy Storage and successfully delivered one of Europe's largest decarbonisation projects at Annandale Distillery.
Exergy3 has raised over 11 million pounds in seed funding from investors including Axeleo Capital, Bayern Kapital, Kibo Invest, Zero Carbon Capital, Scottish Enterprise, and Old College Capital, plus 3.6 million pounds in grant funding from the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero.
The company's technology stores heat up to 1,200 degrees Celsius with less than 1% thermal loss per day and is expanding into Germany with a new Munich office while doubling its headcount in 2026.
