Moritz Sichert

Moritz Sichert is Co-Founder and CEO of CedarDB, a Munich-based database startup building a unified engine that handles both transactional and analytical workloads in a single PostgreSQL-compatible system, purpose-built for the era of agentic AI.
Moritz earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Munich, where his doctoral research focused on seamlessly integrating diverse programming languages with SQL at zero overhead, and also completed a research internship at Tableau.
Moritz blends deep technical expertise with entrepreneurial acumen, having also pursued an economics degree and served as CFO of a small IT business prior to founding CedarDB.
CedarDB spun out of TUM's Umbra research project, co-founded by five academic researchers, and secured $6M in seed funding led by Amplify Partners, with backing from angel investors including Hanno Renner and Jordan Tigani.
CedarDB was selected for TechCrunch Startup Battlefield and announced limited availability of its cloud offering, serving enterprise customers with a 14-person team while positioning itself as a next-generation alternative to fragmented data stacks.
