Samuel Hess

Samuel Hess is Co-Founder and CEO of UniSieve AG, a Zurich-based cleantech company pioneering proprietary molecular sieving membrane solutions to decarbonize energy-intensive heavy industries.
Samuel earned a BS and MS in Biotechnology from ETH Zurich and conducted research in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at UC Berkeley, developing UniSieve's core membrane technology during his PhD at ETH Zurich.
Samuel champions the mantra 'stop boiling and start sieving,' targeting the 10-15% of global energy demand consumed by thermally-driven separation processes with a low-energy membrane alternative.
He co-founded UniSieve in 2018 alongside ETH Zurich classmates Elia Schneider and Wendelin Stark, leading the company from pre-seed grants to a $9M Series A round, bringing total funding to $25M.
UniSieve's membranes reduce energy needed for molecular separation by up to 90%, with pilot contracts signed across heavy industry sectors including olefin recovery, carbon capture, and hydrogen purification.
