Taavet Hinrikus

Taavet is Co-Founder and Partner at Plural, an early-stage venture capital firm backing ambitious European founders in transformational technology. Plural invests in AI, frontier tech, and climate innovation with a founder-led approach.
Taavet was the first employee at Skype in 2002, serving as Director of Strategy until 2008. He co-founded Wise (formerly TransferWise) in 2010 with Kristo Kaarmann, scaling it to over 3,000 employees and taking it public in Europe's first direct listing in 2021.
Taavet has made over 150 angel investments across Europe in companies like Bolt and Synthesia. He attended INSEAD and served as digital adviser to the Prime Minister of Estonia.
Plural has raised over 800M euros across two funds and made 50+ investments in companies like Proxima Fusion, Starship Technologies, and Robin AI. The firm focuses on writing checks of 1M to 15M euros into early-stage European startups.
Wise processes tens of billions in cross-border transactions annually and forced industry-wide reductions in transfer fees. Plural's operator-led model addresses Europe's VC gap where only 8% of investors have founded companies, compared to 60% in the United States.
