Timothée Lacroix

Timothée Lacroix is Co-Founder and CTO of Mistral AI, Europe's leading frontier AI lab, where he drives the engineering vision behind the company's open and commercial large language models.
He graduated in computer science from the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris and spent nearly eight years at Meta AI Research (FAIR) as a PhD student and Research Engineer, co-authoring the landmark LLaMA paper in early 2023.
Lacroix is the architect of Mistral's distributed training clusters and high-performance inference pipelines, specializing in sharded tensor parallelism and large-scale model optimization.
He co-founded Mistral AI in April 2023 alongside Arthur Mensch and Guillaume Lample, just weeks after LLaMA's release, leading engineering teams that have shipped models from Mistral 7B to Mistral Large 3, trained on 3,000 Nvidia H200 GPUs.
Mistral AI has raised over $6.5B in total funding, reached a valuation of $24B with its Series D in September 2026, and is recognized as Europe's most valuable AI company with 1,000+ employees.
