Weiying Kok is CTO and Founder at Proto, a multilingual AI customer experience platform for governments and enterprises in emerging markets. She is a natural language processing expert who leads Proto's multinational engineering team.

Weiying studied at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), earning a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in cognitive science. Her career began at MIMOS, Malaysia's applied research and development centre.

She joined Proto in 2020 as a Machine Learning Engineer and rose through Senior ML Engineer, Deputy Head and Head of Engineering to CTO in January 2025. She champions inclusive AI workflows and local-language technology for underserved communities.

Proto raised a CAD$5.6M Series A led by Mucker Capital, following a $1.8M seed round from Yolo Investments. Weiying's R&D team built voice AI for low-resource languages such as Kinyarwanda and Tagalog, including a collaboration with Voices.

Proto processes 35M AI interactions annually across 8 low-resource languages in Africa and Asia. Its AICX platform serves governments and financial institutions, with deployments in markets such as Rwanda and the Philippines.
