Marc Montalbo Burges is Co-Founder and CTO of Mafer AI, a Barcelona-based startup building MaferOS, an AI-native operating system that empowers R&D teams across formulation-driven industries such as specialty chemicals, food, cosmetics, and fragrances.

Marc studied at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and spent over three and a half years at Kfund, a leading Spanish venture capital firm, where he rose to lead the fund's efforts in Barcelona and sharpened his expertise in AI and deep tech investing.

Marc has presented machine learning research at AISTATS, co-authoring a paper on feature learning kernels and generalization, reflecting his deep technical grounding at the intersection of AI research and industry application.

Prior to Mafer AI, Marc also joined Modern Relay, an AI-focused venture, before channeling his conviction around AI for formulation industries into co-founding Mafer AI alongside Fernando Oliver Jane in late 2025.

Mafer AI closed a 2 million euro pre-seed round backed by Kfund, 4Founders Capital, Masia, and Lavanda Ventures, and was selected by the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre for its AI Factory programme, granting access to over 50,000 GPU hours on NVIDIA H100 infrastructure.
